Lost salutation... "Jai Hind"

As I reached office today morning, walking past my tech lead's cubicle, involuntarily I said "Jai Hind" instead of hi.... hello... or good morning.... that we say normally. My tech lead was amazed and asked me to say again what I said. I said "Jai Hind". He gave a slight grin and got back to his work. I don't know what he was thinking about but I was left with a question, How did that come out of my mouth??? Looking for an answer, I discovered that my father would greet whomsoever he met at office or on road with that salutation. While I grew up watching him say that, it came real easy to me...

My quest for answer just didn't stop there. I started thinking about what made him say so instead of namaste or namaskar or whatever. I feel that may be working in government service for 30+ odd years, they get the sense that they are contributing to the development of the nation. Saying "Jai Hind" everytime in my view will remind him about his responsibilities as a citizen towards this nation. The phrase might be long forgotten in today's world of hi's and hello's but I am sure there is no depreciation in public perception towards their commitment and responsibilities towards this nation. Let's say Jai Hind without any hesitation....
